I thought I'd drop you a few lines and mention how we're going at Royal Perth Hospital using Symphonia 3 in a production environment. Here are some details that may be of interest to you and the Orion team in general:

GPNotify and supporting components have now processed upward of 1,000,000 HL7 production messages in the last 2 months or so There has been 0 effective downtime related to message interpreting/generation during any of the production trial periods.

The system has been started/stopped several times during testing periods covering continuous trial for single days, single weeks and single months at different times 0 issues related to memory loss/creep have been discovered since moving to higher specification hardware.

I hope these kinds of throughput figures are encouraging. I would also like to pass on my total satisfaction with Orion's Symphonia product and ongoing support efforts over the past months. I have found everone which I have dealt with at Orion to be completely professional and committed to my needs and speedy resolution of any issues that I have raised during this time.

GPNotify has now been formally endorsed to 'go-live' ASAP and I'm sure there will be ongoing enhancements as more and more HL7 information is required by the system. Provided I have been supplied with sufficient business and technical information on how our HL7 message stream has implemented the 'standard', I have found it extremely simple to add functionality to my
system components due to local enhancements of HL7 or additional requirements using existing message structures.

My sincere thanks to Orion for a great effort and a simple yet useful tool
for designers/developers interested in health information exchange.

Yet again another very fast project! I think Symphonia must be quartering our development time.. giving us much more time to write better test beds

The Dynamic binding feature in the new Symphonia engine means a program can totally change its message definition and still function correctly - without recompilation. This is because it allows me to reference message elements by strings instead of static identifiers. This is impressive as it will greatly simplify the interface implementation process which means a decreased possibility of errors, with far quicker deployment. In my case, I strive for SIMPLICITY. The more you give me simplicity, the happier I get!

At ADP we chose to use the Symphonia Message Mapper for a recent project where we needed to map our X12 messages to an XML format. The Symphonia Mapper enabled us to do this project with ease, long before schedule. Orion's superb technical support was also a factor in the success of this project.

Mike Willeson from Micro Medical Systems, Inc writes...

We have been utilizing Orion HL7 messaging tools since version 1.11 in 1996. We are very pleased with the advancements in each new version and are confident choosing Orion was the right decision. In addition to solid, dependable tools, another great attribute of Orion is the solid working relationship we have formed. Every email, whether for support questions or sales issues, is returned promptly. Orion staff has even called us to clarify questions we have had. We recently received Symphonia Version 2.4 and are anxious to begin moving our interfaces to the Java Platform. We also look forward to exploring the new XML functionality built in to Symphonia.

John Halamka states...

"Symphonia provides the HL7 messaging services in CareWeb http://freya.bidmc.harvard.edu/careweb.htm, the web-based medical record of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Over the last year, we have used Symphonia in high-traffic mission critical web applications and found it to be robust, easy to use and well supported. Symphonia saved us man-months of development and was a major factor in the timely deployment of our intranet healthcare systems".
